The role of the Iraqi family in determining the tendencies of its children towards university education A descriptive analytical study

Section: RESEARCH

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the Iraqi family in shaping their children’s inclinations toward university education by analyzing the social, economic, and cultural factors influencing their educational decisions. The study employs both the historical and descriptive-analytical methods, reviewing the historical development of the family’s role in supporting higher education and analyzing the impact of parental education levels, family support, and economic status on children’s educational choices.

The findings indicate that the family plays a crucial role in directing children toward university education. Parental educational background, economic stability, and cultural orientations significantly shape children’s academic aspirations. The study also highlights disparities in these influences between urban and rural families.

The study recommends strengthening the family’s role in supporting higher education through awareness campaigns and counseling programs, as well as adopting educational policies that ensure equal opportunities for all social groups.
