The title of the collection of poems (Saqt Al-Zand) by Abu Al-Ala Al-Maari is one of the unique titles that was not used by any poet of his time or before him. This title reflects the state of frustration and existential questioning that the poet is experiencing. His style is distinguished by innovation compared to the traditional titles that were used to name the diwans in the Abbasid era. Thus, the title (Saqt Al-Zand) opens a door to contemporary critical contemplation. It is considered part of the (textual thresholds) in modern literary criticism, as it constitutes a shift in understanding the titles of the collections of poetry in that era. In the era of Abu al-Ala al-Ma’arri or the era before him. The collections were usually named after the poet himself, as in (Diwan al-Buhturi) and (Diwan al-Mutanabbi), which revolves around the traditional character prevailing in naming literary works.
Thus, the title of the collection (Saqt Al-Zand) constitutes a departure from the usual naming of collections. Thus, the title of the collection (Saqt Al-Zand) constitutes a departure from the usual naming of collections, and it adds to the uniqueness of Abu al-Ala al-Ma’arri intellectually and stylistically, as it carries connotations of modesty, self-criticism, and the literary tendency in his poetry, which distinguished the poet, making him a milestone in the development of Arab literary awareness.
